When Rendering Attacks: Interior Marker Rendering

Marker Rendering

Marker Rendering

My INT 190 Final included this fantastic rendering. I finished it just a few days ago and though I would share. I was actually pretty surprised to find out that my other marker rendering is my most viewed post. Weird, right? Well if ya’ll like them I can post them. In fact with that in mind I added a section of them on my web site. When you have a moment peruse on over to http://www.rmf-designs.com/InteriorMarkerRenderings.html

Anyway, this particular work- like I said- grew from my project. We were to design a pediatric office. I choose a world theme. It was- well is- the cutest thing. I picked Asia, Africa and Antarctica. There are adorable doors for each room to reinforce the theme. The look like this:

So cute right? I love it.  Ugh thought- I am exhausted. Been putting the board and presentation for this one together all day long.
I’m heading to bed, must get my rest to finish the rest of this honking project. Just thought I would share the renderings! Ta.

NOTE: Okay- the doors look bizarrely elongated. I’ll fix-um later.

Sunflowers Against Red: An Acrylic Painting

25 09 2008

One of my all time favorite current artist is Edward Noott. Never heard of him? Your not alone. I found him browsing on Art.com, which I’m sure I’m suppose to be morally opposed to as an artist. But oddly, I’m not just okay with the site, I am obsessed with it!  love browsing that site, it’s a great place for inspiration if you ask me. Anyway I was poking around and found Mr. Noott’s amazing sunflower painting ‘Jug of Sunflowers’ and I loved loved loved it. Any normal person would have then bought the print right? Well being the non-normal person that I am I immediately became obsessed with painting my own sunflower painting. Our outcomes are very different, but I want to give him full inspiration credit- Hear that kids, plagiarism is wrong. Give credit where credit is due. With out further ado, My sunflower paintings:

Full                                                                       Detail

Pretty snazzy, right? This is one painting that sits out in my room most of the time. Not only I was I happy with the overall look of the painting, I love the feelings this painting stirs up in me. I remember clearly finding my inspiration, immediately sitting down and painting it in about two maybe three hours start to finish. Cool, right?

I love this paintings loose shapes and exposed brushwork. It gives it that hurried feel. But in a relaxed sort of way. If that makes any sense at all. By all means I’m far too defined here to be considered impressionstic, but I like the textures that the strokes make. To me something about it still says ‘impression’. Hmm.

This art analyzing stuff it rather challenging, ya know it. The words are hard to find.

Anyway, this painting launched a red background obsession that stuck with me for several months (that I may or may not be returning too). It was, again, painted late 2006 a few weeks prior to the Lilly one (last post in case you missed it) I believe. (I certainly like parentheses today huh?) Anywho, I’ve ran out of ramblings. See you soon with another painting, and thanks for checking this one out.

Oh, and p.s. If you have a few moment and $39.99 check out Noott’s painting on art.com, you’ll love it!

Of Lilies and Raindrops: An acrylic painting

22 09 2008

I found this painting on my hard-drive a few days ago and thought I could share it. The original is still MIA, but I’m pretty sure it’s still in the garage from the move…which took place over a year ago… yeah. This one was painted about 2006, one of my most productive painting years. I had just graduated from high school, and spent the summer painting and working at the flower shop. Sigh… Memories. Anyway, I always really liked this piece. It was painted at the height of my flower addiction, and I always felt it was one of my better ones. I love the vibrancy in the red lilies, and the shadowing that there petals naturally create.  After a frustrating day of not getting the background right I decided to paint the arrangement up against a window. And before I knew it was raining outside of my picture. And I really liked the serene effect against the bold lilly. But oh boy can I tell this was painted prior to my drawing class on perspective! The table is a little cringe worthy, don’t look at it! Kidding, this is one I might need to retouch… When I find it that is. Just thought I’d share my little trip down past painting lane.

‘Till next time.

A Venture into the world of How-to: Painting a Mountain

5 09 2008

It’s shocking what you can see on TV today. It can be disturbing, violent or just plain weird. Kids are, undoubtedly greatly being affected by this. But this is not about  the effect of television on America’s youth. Because I however was always an exception to the rule.  Nothing from TV has corrupted me. For this is what I learned from TV:

Okay, well partially. See those mountains? They were painted  a few years ago after I watched some guy on PBS teach me how to paint. It was so awesome, I was sitting there home, sick as a dog, watching the show and at the end I thought, “this guy is such a liar not everyone can suddenly paint a mountain just because he showed them.. Idiot”.   So once I had recovered I got out a canvas and started the painting using his techniques to the best of memory and capability. I was in middle school I believe. And I had to admit, it turned out moderately stellar. Go figure!

I pulled it out the other day looking for new (or well old) art to display on my blog or paint over with something that could be displayed on a blog. It made me crack  up. I decided to sit down and work on it, improve some of the basic forms in it. The  mountain/tree scenario is the same from that fateful day. Because my mountain turned out awesome-tastic. And I remember doing the trees with a fan brush convinced they wouldn’t look good, but I have say I didn’t really think I could do so much better now. The water was, however, well dreadful. Nothing good about it. So I spent some time jazzing that up as well as the sky. Overall I think I re-touched for about an hour.

I must say, I was proved wrong. PBS guy you Rule!

Kids, you have my permission to watch lame local cable TV shows. You never know what you’ll learn.

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful… Palm Tree?

24 08 2008

Missed me? I’ve been trying desperately to bottle the last few hours of summer before the torture, more commonly referred to as school, resumes session. The demanding schedule has left little time for art-blogging. But here I as yet again, staying up too late to share yet another picture. It’s like an itch one has to scratch. Tonight I’ll share a more personal painting. It was painted about two moths ago and given to my step-father on his and my Mama’s wedding day. I’ll claim I am posting it in their honor, for it their I month+1 day anniversary. Congrats to them. Anyway here was the original Rachel Marie Ford he was given on that joyous day:

Yes, a painting of palm trees.  Not quite romantic, but he had asked me for a painting of a palm tree. Well not so much asked as made an offhanded comment about he’d always wanted one, shame he didn’t know someone who could paint him a palm tree. It was an odd subject for me to paint, as I had never considered a palm tree to be overly attractive. Or something that needed to be painted. At all really.

So I took some time looking at palm trees and looking at other people’s paintings of palm trees. Turns out his request wasn’t as weird as I thought. Apparently, Palm trees are all the rage…. And I had been missing out. Well, maybe not that far. But I was able to look at quite a few to get a handle on how others had managed the overall size and color.  I cheated a little in my composition on this one, while looking I saw a painting that had the tree angels and loved the idea. And in my defense, I had very little time to work out and other greater idea of my own, there weeding was two weeks after the proposal– But that it a very different story.

So I started with the two thin trunks juxtaposing one another and let it grow from there. The coloring and paint technique are fairly typical for my current ‘style’, but I liked that it wasn’t so feminine looking. It has a quality to it. Less chick-ish. And that really surprised me. I was quite comfortable with my soft painting nature. But if I can’t paint both delicate lilies and palm trees, well, I might just be a real artist….. Someday.

A Nosegay a day…

20 08 2008

This was a random painting I found archived in my images on the computer. I painted it after seeing the ‘real’ image in a museum one day. I’m completely embarrassed to admit that I can’t remember anything else!  I’ll keep looking for the name and once I find it I’ll pop the name of the painting and artist in! I just know that it was a copy of some famous baroque painting! Oops! Anyway, the reason I wanted to post it was to show another glimpse  of my incredible talent… kidding. I have always loved this painting. I am insanely proud of the billowy sleeves on the woman. The light and shadow in the crevices of fabric were hard to achieve but, I conquered. On the down side: her skin looks dreadful! Oh well, live an learn right? Actually this was my very first human attempt. I’ve never really been interested in drawing or painting people… Strange I know, most artist really enjoy capturing the human form. I must be anti-social on the inside, lol. After this multi-afternoon affair I’ve only attempted one other human. That went much better, but not yet a fantastic as one might predict I was capable of. Maybe I can get her up tomorrow.

In a more recent art update I spent my evening working on a new painting. It’s coming along really nicely, I cant wait to show it off! Hopefully I’ll get it finished before school starts back up next Monday.

I’ll be back soon with another painting!

Grandeur, Glamour and Bee inspiration:Interior Rendering

19 08 2008

I figured a break from reminiscing about my past painting was in order. Instead I thought I would share another form of art that is currently very important in my life.

This particular rendering I did June of this year. I’m taking the summer to build up my portfolio for January, when applications are going in for my transfer to a big bad university (Dun, dun dum). That is, if I live through the rest of my classes.  I really wanted to do a rendering that highlighted rendering and drawing talents, and did not focus on my design aesthetic. So I choose a more architectural ‘room’ and stuck to a simple design. The marble floors took forever to plan out, but once I had those everything largely fell into place. I wanted to stick to a black and white theme and pop it with splashes of color. I ended with the citrus yellow and grass green, I liked that it could seem fresh and a slightly new idea. I was mildly terrified it would end up looking bee-ish, but thankfully the classic details really make for a polished look–atleast in my mind.

This marker rendering  is NOW AVAILABLE, why not check it and other out at http://www.rmf-designs.com/InteriorMarkerRenderings.html
